Within this debate about appropriate staffing, the use of supplemental or temporary nurses to bolster short-term nurse staffing levels is widely viewed in negative terms. Temporary nurses include those employed by external agencies, internal hospital per diem pools, and permanently employed nurses “floated” from their permanent units. |
